In this year of America’s 250th anniversary, there is a hotly contested controversy surrounding President Donald Trump’s overindulgence in his presidential powers during the middle of his second term. The protesters, with slogans like “No Kings,” believe that President Trump has overused his powers beyond the constitutional limit by bypassing the Congress and waging a war on Iran, carrying out a secret military operation in Venezuela, and using the Department of Justice against his enemies. While historians warn about setting dangerous precedents with regard to separation of power, Trump’s conservative defenders claim that what Trump is doing is not new and should not be considered an aesthetic problem. Despite his poor approval rating of less than 40%, Trump’s loyal Republicans still stand firmly by his side, even suggesting that he be added to the faces of Mount Rushmore.
